Of sanctions and mediocrity

The next great feature is the spectre of Mercury. Now this is going to be fun to watch playing out on the ground, so you better hold on to your hats!
The actions won't be fun, but the fact that we are getting the opportunity to disclose these in advance, putting my head on the block so to speak, is rather!
12 October through to 2 November we find Mercury retrograde in Scorpio - Black November. Can anyone recall the last few Novembers? Dark days indeed, and for all the budding young couples out there, aghast! don't be mentioning November.

So what do we need to watch out for? The dark and nasty truth - how people really feel, the underlying fate at hand, any stories that have been waiting to pop, hmmm Selebi, your time may have come my friend, Scorpions and all! It's classic the way the sky fills in the words even for us. So yes, over this period and the week before 12 October, watch for delays, miscommunications, failed deliveries and misunderstandings. Double check everything before following through otherwise you'll have to return to pick it up. Backwards and forwards is the most obvious action on the ground during these retrograding times. Above all, be truthful and use your secrets to the best of your defence.
Now to tell the truth here, I have noticed some of my words of late may seem a tad derogatory or harsh. I do apologize for this but it is spurred by the idea that our sanctioning of mediocrity is no cultural answer. In a recent article I parallel mad cows and affirmative action - goodness, you're not supposed to say those things! I talked about the sporting world and its consumer fools. I do not mean to call us fools, but it is us who sit idly by and support all of this chicanery. More lavish advertising coating an ever deteriorating product. When all is brought to book, tell me who willingly sanctions such but a mesmerised victim, dazed, awaiting predation.
If your neighbourhood goes to the dogs - that's your problem, your fault and it's your prerogative to sort things out.
When I talk about sanctioning mediocrity I'm saying we need to put in some effort ourselves to change things, to better ourselves, to refuse to accept anything less than the truth, despite the fact that most of us are afraid of the truth. We need to stop looking to lay the blame on others and instead look to ourselves. What are we doing about the problems that face us, what effort and input can we offer to help find a solution.
We cannot afford to settle for the mediocre, life is too short for that.
The basic core then of my past slandering points toward a culture that is being propagated here in South Africa and possibly abroad, where we are actually encouraged to under-perform in order not to rock the boat. When we willingly allow contemporaries their endless drama under the guise of being supportive, it is here that we are sanctioning mediocrity.
Think here of the firing of the deputy Minister of Health - looked what happened when she rocked the boat, and even more recently, the controversy over Pikoli. Further ashore we can look at the Sub-Prime Mortgage Financial Crisis and the "Northern Rock" banking stampede in the UK - their seeds all lay in these. A society that worships credit, praise, adulation with no actual effort, dedication or commitment. For two years we will experience these pains. In this article be the spirit of the upcoming Mercury retrograde.
